Server-Side maps
« on: October 18, 2006, 12:21:36 PM »
Ok, now I'm puzzled......like that's something new
Apparently there are ways to make server side maps. Think about it, you don't have to download anything to play CTF and there are objectives in it with beef, sausage, flak guns files....etc.
How are they in there that you don't need a download?
Also, has anyone played on the BuR-Jessie and girls UK server? That server is loaded with custom maps. Omaha at night with a tank, axis objective....parachutes. The Bridge with some sort of cover over the north side of the river......allie objective. Hmmm, makes these TOW in a way. On another BuR server, the maps had rain, lightning (yes, you could be killed if struck)and depending on how many frags you played, the days became night.
So there must be some way of scripting these things that client-side computers automatically load it. Desert Eagle.......where are you. I would be very interested to learn how to make these so nobody has to download a custom map for something different.

Custom maps are NEW maps you have to download to play. The maps you describe are moderated STOCK maps. You just add elements to stock maps and change them you dont use different ones.
If you know scriptin you can have Brest with a purple sky without the player having to download anything extra.

But if the map is a new one (custom map) then if you dont have that map in your pc you can't play it.

I've never been clever, because need it never.

Also remember extensive mods tend to have more glitches and if not mistaken often contribute to server lag.

I am comfortable with what has been done here, slow and easy.

The mods and stuff may be neat but I am also quite comfortable with what we have created so far, a friendly old school gaming environment.

Additions and mods should be added slowly, if at all.

If I noticed anything at all it seems that maps that favor Rifle players seem to be preferred by the Bugs.

Personally I am not in favor of any map needing a download.

Or maybe we need to identify the most preferred map and run that particular one with mods added along with the original.

Above all if we are running a modded map, server side, we need to foucus on one map at a time.

Somehow we need to focus on one thing at a time. Tough to accomplish in forum posts.
