Texas S**ks
« on: February 02, 2007, 01:57:44 PM »
The only good thing about Texas is that this week it is not 100 Deg hot, it's only 35-45 Deg, wet, rainy and a snow flake or two. Much preferred by me to the summer temps I encountered.

Texans must brag about their state to try and fool themselves. It is quite simply a miserable place, devoid of any redeeming qualities. Even worse, it's the home of the despised Dallas Cowboys.

I have gone from Dallas, north into Oklahoma and Aringadale AR, back to Dallas then south almost to Houston and back again to Dallas.

In all honesty there has not been one scenic moment. No one must ever get lost in Texas, no matter how far you go the most you need do is stand on tippy toes and you can see where you've been.

From Dallas you need to drive about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to simply get away from excessive population. Then all you see is barren brown field with an occaisional cow or two.

There are absolutely no redeeming qualities.

Oh yeah, also an occaisional donkey in the fields. Local reasoning here for the donkey is interesting and possibly true......have heard it from more than one source.

Apparently Texas has Coyotes, Coyotes apparently will raid the live stock. Well, it appears the Donkey not only is unafraid of the Coyote but actually has a passionate dislike for canine type animals. If a Coyote enters a field that has a Donkey it's life is at risk, the Donkey will try to run it down and kill it.

Imagine a Donkey being the protector for that beasts family ;D

I did find that little bit of Texas trivia interesting. Although I also suspect our cattle in PA must be tougher because we don't have Donkey's protecting them. And yes, we do have Coyotes in PA. Maybe a more civilized variety.

Well, one last day of Texas scenery and business and back to the civilized and scenic state of PA.

Edit: Just noticed that in the above sentence that Texas and scenery would qualify as an Oxymoron ;)

Once again, I agree with the whale...

I do have to admit that the winters are not too bad here but I have been homesick for the great white north since i came here.

On the bright side, the girls are prettier and easier here. ;)
just gotta get'em before they got too many kids yet...

Unfortunately, one of the best things Dallas had is now closed. I loved the Blue Mule! Their fuel packed quite the punch...  :pissed:
I heard wondrous things about Austin and was considering moving there at one point. Oh and Tx has the most amazing storms I've ever seen :)

So, now I am in Houston......Texas still sucks ;D

I stayed near the airport at a Holiday Inn Express, 100.00 per night. Little did I know it was in the Hood'. :-[

Anyway, stayed 2 nights and relocated to NW Houston.....much better.

Still flat and hot.....over 80 deg F.

I think if I go outside and stand on a rock I should be able to see Dallas.

My wifes ex now lives in Dallas......he is an attorney........but I suspect it sucked even before he got there.  :D
And at the farm we board our horses at here, there is a donkey. I've never asked why they have it, but to me it just seems to be a pasture ornament. :-\

There are three types of livestock guardians: llamas, dogs, and donkeys.

Donkeys have extremely hard, small hooves; and they are amazingly accurate in where they place them, whether that be on the ground or in the air.  Those hooves are very effective projectile missiles.  They have incredibly strong necks, jaws and teeth, capable of lifting, crunching and flinging objects of 50 to 100 lbs.  They also move away from predators, presenting their rears in a way that leads the predator to believe they are retreating and encouraging attack from behind.  What they are really doing is positioning themselves to deliver those projectile missiles in the most effective way.  They can use their front feet in a similar way, stamping an adversary and breaking its bones, but they seem to prefer the back handed (footed) method.

One more thing about Texas......the highway system.

In Houston they have some of the most complex Interstate connections known to man.

Where I 290 comes into Houston, and if you take Beltway 8, North, it is like you are going off on a Roller coaster ride. One lane up......way up :o roll into a turn and then back down.

No need for an amusement park in Houston, just go for a ride on the interstate connections. Thrill enough for anyone.

Initially I thought Dallas had the lock on complex, muti-level intersections........that was until I saw Houston. Hands down, Houston wins

For all the highways Houston has you still have to pay toll money just priveledge of getting stuck in traffic jams, might as well call it a parking fee instead of a toll >:(

Then in the middle of no where, Highway 6 between College Station and I 290 (Hempstead TX) this super highway is being constructed where no one drives.

It has to be the result of 2 Bush presidents and federal highway funding.

And I thought the bleeding heart Liberals were sucking away my tax money for welfare. I have to pause and re-think, it might be the Bush's sending money to Texas for unecessary roads. :'(
