Weather
« on: February 16, 2007, 01:32:23 PM »
I have been travelling in north central PA and north weatern NY this week. Lots of snow.

Temperature in the teens, winds contribute to drifting snow. road crews have done a good job.

Tried helping an old lady who was stuck yesterday and accomplished nothing but good will. Fortunately a state plow truck came along and he was kind enough to stop, hook up a chain and pull her out. The lady has his name and will be writing the state to thank him for his assistance.

This traffic tie up is not far from where I live:

I often travel through and in this area. Glad I was not there the other day :)

The company i work for has about 50 pickups with plows and alot of differant equipment used for plowing. I have my own personal truck that i lease to the company for plowing. Whenever i see somebody in the ditch i give em a quick pull out, but i never give my name. The city doesnt like the workers helping out the public on "there time". If the Snow gets to deep we just break out bigger equipment. Snow always melts sooner or later.. lol
I think everybody shold spend a litte time behind the wheel plowing for 8 or 10 hours once.. i think they would have a little more patiance next time it snowed
Good post Shamu,
Beckett

PS did i ever mention how much i really hate snow?

I think that is true in many placces but even more important as to who's time it is on are the possible insurance liabilities.

If someone gets hurt or the car get's damaged there could be insurance issues, especially in our lawsuit conscious society.

It's very unfortunate that a good samaritan now might have to worry if he'll get sued for trying to help.

Fortunatley not the case here.

Also, if he had not pulled her out, one lane would have been blocked and at 8 Deg F. the ladies health endangered. There was a passenger also. If he had not got them out there would have been serious potential problems considering what was happening weather wise.

With what was going on it was almost like a state of emergency and I think the driver made a good decision and did a hell of a job. Hooking the chain up was not a job I would have wanted to do. Too old for that crap.

When I lived in central Ohio, I worked for a small town utilities dept and spent many hours plowing peoples cars and driveways back in... ;D

Did you know, when you get a truck with about 18 tons of salt in it going 45 MPH with an 8ft. plow on the front pushing 6" of snow....you can reach porches about 25 ft from the roadway?!?!?

Coming from one who drives them Big trucks I would like to say that them salt shakers did one hell of a job and arte still doing it. Hats of to Penndot and the NY state dot workers as well as the local guys out there giving it all for us to get the goods where they gotta go. I did a lil exttra duty as we have some guys that just wont drive in these conditions. Thats large in part as to why I have not been around. Im finally getting asmall break and will soon be back out there pickin up the slack that this storm has caused. Hope all are doing well and are in good health. See yas'll soon I hope. Peace.

Winter sucks, being stuck in New York City sucked, being stuck in Cleveland sucked, being Stuck in Erie, PA sucked.  Global warming my freaking ass!!!.

Like to see those bunny hugging tree loving global warming hippies come and shovel the 110" of global warming I have had dumped on my in the last 33 days.  Yes it has snowed in some form or another for the last 33 days where I lived.  The snow banks next to me my driving way from shovel are over 7 feet high.

Well the only think the cold crappy weather is good for is staying indoors and having sex, but I do not get that anymore either, so turning into a cold bitter old man..:)

Well Eagle, you could stay inside and game with us a bit.....like it or not you are still a BUG. Your resignation was not accepted  ;D

And while on the weather I much prefer winter to summer even with the wind, cold and snow.

I even travlelled in NY a little over a week ago with the snow storms. I was near Erie PA, Warren PA, Corry PA, Jamestown, NY, Buffalo NY, Corning NY, Elmira NY and loved every bit of the travel.

The driving was fun, the scenery beautiful. I took Rt. 120 north from Lockhaven to Rt.46 in Emporium and then 59 to Warren. If you know the roads you know how nice a ride it is. Did not see any Elk unfortunately. I do want to take this ride on my Harley sometime.

Little distresses me more than days 90 and above with high humidity. I hate sticking my nose out the door on days like that.

I much prefer 30 and below with lots of snow.

However I do admit my favorite times are spring and fall so long as the temperature stays below 70. The romantic in me likes the birth of spring and the color and crispness of fall after hot, unbearable, summer

Gotta agree with you on the weather issue Shamu!  Summer is just too hot!  really do not mind the winter  at least when it's cold you can add more clothing lol  rather be a tad chilly than deal with heat and humidity

Spring is my fav with Fall being a very close second

The hotter the better, take the heat and humidity any day over th crappy snow and cold. I also do not care much for Hurricanes and such in the south, so have been looking to retire at the moment in Arizona or New Mexico.
