ok I have this question, mind you I know nothing about weapons dealers etc etc. However it does surprise me to see AK-47 rifles  given by the US  to the Iraq army.
Does USA produces this? I thought it was mainly Russia.
Do US troops use AK-47 ?
How come and they didnt sell/give to Iraq US produced weapons?

Possibly a matter of cost and prference. The AK-47 was developed by Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov a Russian officer. Also the K in AK.

It is a remarkable weapon currently manufactuered in many countries world wide, it may be the most popular battle rifle in use today.

Why give them to Iraq? Quite possibly preffered by the Iraq military, also much lower cost than the Black Rifle (M16A1)used by American forces, probably more than half the cost. Well designed for the environment (sand) and close combat.

There are many, many, reasons to provide the AK over an M16 (AR-15) but we can only specualate on what ones were used here.

Also keep in mind there are many variants of the AK available so who knows what was desired. Could very well the AK was what they wanted and as simple as that.

And yes Seven, there is an AK in our collection:

And the Black Rifle:

If you dig further into the story, the AK-47s are actually from the previous Iraqi Army.  General contractors basically restored them and sent them back to Iraqi to the new Iraqi Army via the US Army.
