Why 7even didn't play this Sat
« on: September 30, 2007, 09:11:58 AM »
Cause her house was full with ruins!

I come back from work on Friday evening..
I open the door and...

oops..!

going closer
....wth...?

you gotta be kidding me!

there's a hole in my ceiling what I am gonna do....

zoom

how this happened?
The Power Company is digging all over the neighbourhood to replace the cables. To save time, they had two "pneumatic drillings" breaking concrete at the SAME time a few feet in front of my apartment (I live in the ground floor).

this is just under my window

in front of the building's entrance (don't ask how we enter the building..it was a difficult stunt..to say the least).
You can see the power cable (thick black). Look at the water pipes, how narrow they are...

left of my window

right of my window

I could feel the tremors that morning before I leave to work but it wouldnt cross my mind that my ceiling would collapse.
(I am not a mechanic but how smart is to have 2 powerfull drills working at the same time in the same spot?)

The good thing is I wasnt there where happened. That morning I was sitting with a friend at the exact point of collapse. Those pieces are HEAVY could kill you if fall in your head.

The other good thing is that the dining room is the least decorated (if any) room of the apartment so I dont really care for furniture and stuff. I am glad it didnt happen to the pc room.

The bad thing is all the 47years old building dust I inhaled, plus all the trouble I have to go through to make this ppl PAY for the dammage.
I didnt have my flat insured (its not customed here..oh well..I should..) but they will fix it.

Now I have transfered the pc at the bedroom since the pc room is exposed to too much dust and I cant stay there.
I hope they will fix the damn thing soon enough. Its not practical to have the pc in the bedroom..but I wont move it back to its room before they fix the ceiling.

Funny thing, last bill from the power company was the lowest ever got. Only 22 Euros when I usually pay 100. I was so glad!
They took my low bill joy back, the BASTARDS!!

I am shocked to say the least, both at what happened and the condition outside your apartment.

Your cat must be having a hissy fit with all that going on outside your apartment. It not like they understand what is hapening they just know things are not right.

Good luck with the repairs and I hope you are not given too much grief. If that had happened here in the states I can almost assure you the customer would be finding ways to claim more damage than actually occurred. Dollar wise the customer will usually comeout ahead.

Perhaps much of the problem has to do with the age of Greece. Underground, in old cities, bad things are happening. Pipes breaking, sewers collapsing and the difficulty in addressing these problems.

We have it here in the states and we are like infants when compared to Athens.

Anyway, good luck, and yes you did miss a busy Sat. night.

Sorry about your apartment. I sure hope it gets fixed soon.

I even showed up Sat night. Had a blast as usual.

BTW , our house electric bill for a month averages about 120.00 or 84 Euros.

We have 8 rooms, 3 1/2 baths and a basement. I doubt I could afford Greek electricity.

DEH (public power company, the only power company actually)
measures our power consumption every 4 months.
But we don't get a bill every 4 months, we get 1 bill every 2 months.

now here is the trick:
the first bill...is an estimation of what you might comsume those 4 months (based on your previous bills), like paying in advance, plus VAT, plus various taxes plus plus plus plus plus...)

the second bill has the total of what you have consumed the last 4 months (plus VAT, plus other taxes, plus taxes for the public tv plus plus plus plus..).
From the 2nd bill they  have subtracted what you had paied in the 1st billl but only the net amount!

so in other words, instead of paying once in every 4 months as it used to be, you pay every 2 months only to pay  TWICE VAT and the various taxes.

example: lets say in 4 months you consume power of 80$.
1 bill every 4 months means you pay 80$ plus VAT plus other taxes.

2 bills means:    1 bill 60$ (estimation in advance) plus vat+taxes
                   + 1 bill 80$ (the actual comsumation)- 60$
(you gave in advance) plus vat+taxes

Its evil isinit?

anyway for only the power I usually pay around 20 euros per month (vat and taxes included) for a 63sq.m. flat.

63 Sq. M.  is equal to??  about 210 sq ft?

Are we spoiled or what? My wife's sister lives in Amsterdam in a small flat. She was telling us all about it.... and here we live in what we consider a modest 1900 sq. ft. townhouse. We should all exchange homes for 6 months.... after 7 gets her ceiling fixed....

Although, if you pay for materials and my flight... I could fix that nooooo problem. Ready to have a house guest for a week???  lol!!
