I got Airborne this Friday.
I finished the game on Sat evening on normal mode (there are also easy and hard mode).
There are 6 missions and I would say you need 8 to 9 hours to finish them all in Normal Mode.
It played well in my pc (core duo 2.13mhz, 2gb ram, windos xp pro, ati x1550 256). There is a setup where you can choose how high you want your graphics to show..but it's the game that itself chooses your machine limits. I think I didnt get the full graphics experience this game can offer but still it was ok.
Graphics and scenery are much much better than Pasific Assault.
And very detailed. The models as well. And the weapons. Very detailed graphics. Very detailed...for my vision capacities lol!
I had the same problem with COD2. Everything was so detailed in the scenery that it was annoying at some point. Might give you more realistic WWII enviroment but when you want to play and shoot targets I think it takes from the game more than it gives.
The game tries hard to be realistic. Which is probably why at the beginning you can't shoot a damn thing even if its in front of you waiting to be hit

. The Bad guys seem to be really hard to hit sometimes and not only that but they shoot you the moment an inch of you is visible. You can't hide from them. They can see you.
I think there is a
bug in the whole aiming/shooting code of this game. Or they thought it was realism not to be able to shoot well.
There is this
neat element of you landing in whatever spot of the map you feel like. There are some spots marked as safe and makes the rest of the map nearly leathal for your to land on.
As for the
multiplayer experience, there is this mod with allies landing from the sky that is fun. There are also some maps from the original MOH, like the Hunt, but looks different than the maps we know. I only play a bit, but if you ask me I prefer COD2 than Airborne. Still its much better than Passific Assault (what a failure this game was).
Overall, I got bored with Airborne.... and mainly for 3 reasons:
1)
You can't save the game when you want. If you die you have to restart the latest mission.
That is very annoying and I have to admit in some levels I cheated using the GOD mode cause I coulndt stand to replay again and again and again a 10 mins fight from the beginning.
2)
The so called realism. I think there can not be a realism in a wwii 2 fps game (I havent played RO yet). The graphics or the model details or the excellent sounds can give you realism that is taken away the next moment when the enemies attack all together (you can kill them all with a nade).
Not to mention the undefeated
Elite Nazi Storm Rambo soldier.
This Nazi Character is like coming from DOOM or Wolfenstein games, seems like an supernatural zombie that carries a minigun or something (Rambo style...) wears a gaz mask (to make it scary??) and you need to empty 10 clips on him to take him down. Honestly I thought I was playing Doom everytime this monster was apearing in front of me.
But maybe also cause...
3)....
I think I am tired of WWII "realistic" fps games. If you ask me whatever this genre had to offered ended with Spearhead and COD2. The rest made to milk the genre as most as possible.
I find Spearhead or Breakthrough single player tones more realistic than Airbone, even if the graphics seem so "simple". They were no Rambo Nazis after you

Maybe this is why I keep playing Spearhead on line. The maps are as detailed as they need to be, the weapons are simple, the scenery is not too realistic and dark, and freezetage makes it even more fun than a simple shoot the enemy down.
Or maybe I am just getting old and my brain cells can't take more than SH can offer them
