CoD 4
« on: November 11, 2007, 02:25:43 PM »
Anyone planning on or have already tried this game?

I have the game, yet to be installed, and am concerned about my home PC graphics card.

It's a Radeon 9800 XT. It will not support Airborne, EA games has told me that.

Will it support COD 4?

If not what AGP card can I get that will improve my situation?

I am computer illiterate and have surfed for information but am still lost. I need an AGP card and I think it needs to support 9X. Also there is something about "shader" that was mentioned with regard to Airborne that I have forgotten.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Shamu, looks like your machine is running the game just fine...good seeing you and Seven on tonight!  What do you think of the game thus far?  I have differing opinions on different gametypes, but overall me like! :)

Favorite gametype:  Sabotage
Lease favorite      :  Free-for-all

As ever least favorite is S&D......I like to respawn and play, not sit and watch. Take no offense over at SC if S&D comes on and I leave, I just dislike S&D.

Wish I could have stayed when Seven came in but this is a babysitting weekend.

Overall I like the game much better than CoD or UO. CoD 2 is close but this is better still.

Least liked aspect is the Martyrdom nades, I think they are bogus kills but since they are there I use them. I think they are something most players would not miss. Besides, I have yet to be able to toss one back >:(

A little helpful point regarding the game and file management. You build rank as you play and gain weapons and challenges. Not good to lose your player history. So......

Your player is found by going to Activision, opening CoD 4, go to the Players folder and make a habit of copying your Profile folder. This way you save all your accomplishments should you have issues.

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players

I suspect you can also just copy the files found in the Profile folder and just select the files for the player you want to save.

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\Shamu

I did this once but lost my Custom Slot names. Weapons were still custom but lost what I had called them. All else was okay.

At this time I just regularly copy my Profile folder to a memory stick and move my Profile folder between my 3 PC's to keep everything up to date and only have one player file.

There is also a Backup Utility out there but I have not tried it.

For now I will stick with Copy and Paste......it works

I played and finished the SinglePlayer and really enjoyed it.
Great graphics, loved the animation and my pc handled just fine!

Now I cant have a full opinion about the Multiplayer I just played last nite for the first time, 30mins in a TDM server and another 30 in SC. I dont even know all the gametypes, I certainly find S&D boring as usual :D

I dont like the ranking system, I find it unfair and stupid. But I can live with it. I also find it difficult to sometimes to get who is enemy and who is teamate. BUt with time I will fix this :D

Also the very detailed scenery makes the game a bit harder to play but this is only my brain to blame hahahahha!

The only really thing that annoys me in COD4 is the.. welll "modern warfare". I dont enjoy it, its a bit like counterstrike, terrorists against the good guys. I wish they could make such a good game in WWII.

I am glad I played with the SC, Poolie, I will repeat and be  on TS as well. Always fun to play with ya. I hope you wont kill your COD server, maybe you can set a day in week or month so we can have a nice COD extravaganza in your server.

Shoot you later!

Finished single player twice and trying to get stuff unlocked at the moment. I started playing multiplayer at work but it's sooooo hard when you just start and when everyone has been playing for a while all scoped up and everything... I do well sneaking around and sniping the crud out of them though. Obviously, I'd last about 5 seconds in a firefight :(

What did you guys think of the mission Death From Above ? I have to admit it weirded me out a bit as I saw some real footage of something similar. It's a thrill to play though.

there a couple of TDM servers to get your multiplayer rank higher.
They have 1-2 maps only, the smaller ones, and there are 50 ppl there at the same time.
Its absolutely chaotic, especially in the "shipment" map where everyone spawns in the same spot  ;D
But its not to enjoy the game as to gather the points needed. Thats the only purpose of these servers. You get the rank points much much more faster than if you played the game in normal servers.

I still find  this feature a big minus. And unfair to the noobs. And I dont see the point of it really:
its not fun not to be an expert gamer, joining a game for the first time and all the others to have better weapons and more ammo than you. Hardcore gamers might like it but ppl who wanna play for a bit of fun  might get disappointed and leave the game soon.

As for the "death from above" it was a bit weird and kinda scary. I am not too comfortable with realistc war games, its kind of creepy. Which is why I prefer freeze-tag, its more a game than a war enviroment recreation.

oh..will they ever release a freeze tag version for COD4? That I would love to play :D

It is a great game, has so much going for it.  You could actually make a freeze tag mod for the game.  There are so many options you can turn on and off in the game if you want to run a unranked server.  If you like the moh style of play I would suggest playing on a COD4 server running in "Old School" mode.  In Old School everyone is equal and has the same weapons, etc...

Myself, our COD4 server will become un-ranked as soon as the COD4 tools are released and I create my first map.
