the USA elections topic
« on: October 04, 2008, 12:19:43 PM »
Well we should have started this already!
Here you can say whatever you want about the elections.
Who you support, why, what are your hopes, your thoughts on USA future, whatever has to do with the elections.

It seems USA economy is swiming in deep s***. I guess the upcoming elections will be very important for the future of the country.
Will Obama be the new hope? Or McCain the veteran will save the day?

Common ppl Share your thoughts, only 30 days left.

I was reading the other day how much downhill the American economy has gone during the Bush Jr. years.

Clinton in 2000 left USA with a surplus of 200something billions and now its a -300+ billions deficit.

Is this the cost of the Iraq War? (me is wondering when finaly Americans will admit this war wasnt necessairy)

The  cost for antiterrorism war ? (have you read how bad things are going in Afganistan? at least the drugs production over there has been increased, congrats guys something is going up hill finally!)

Or (and) the deficit is the result of a failed economic policy that allowed high risk capitalism and a big majority of the citizens to rely their prosperity on loans they could never realy pay off?
How much the goverment should control the banks BEFORE the disaster? And the medicin so far is the state to give to the banks..yeah right..goverment is now showing its teeth..lol!
Where was the goverment to protect its citizens in the first place?
And they call that a free market where the state is paying for the mistakes of private corporations? hahahahaha capitalism!

Never so few had so much money and they still manage to frak up global economy. That's what happens when you give all the power to ignorant greedy little bastards.

Things will be tough for the new administration. So far it looks like Obama will win rather easily. I wonder if it was a mistake choosing someone as McCain. During a huge global economic crissis I look at him and he doesnt persuade me a tiny bit that he has the cohones or the right solutions to fight back.

Still..he looks much better than the majority of the incompetent greek politicians.. ::)

I've never been clever, because need it never.

Couple of items I find of interest when thinking about the US economic situation.

1) The Clinton "booming economic times" were over when he left office. At the time of the election in 2000, the economy was already beginning to slow as evidenced by the dot com bust which preceded the 9/11 attacks.

2) The lending/load crisis in financial institutions were helped along by the Fed interest rate cuts made to keep stimulating the economy. People made adjustable rate loans on homes they couldn't afford - helped along because the interest was so low.

3) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac together owned about half of the $12 trillion home mortgages issued to citizens. Guess what? These two organizations were already overseen by the federal government. The thing I find interesting is that there were attempts to clean up Freddie and Fannie, but the do-nothing congress did, well, did nothing. Interesting link here on earlier efforts to reform them.

To good not to pass along:

Code: [Select]
Notice to All Employees

As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama is officially elected into
office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping
with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:

1.     All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a
common pool that will be divided equally between all of you.  This will
serve to give those of you who are underachieving a "fair shake."

2.     All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including
overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves.
This will help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards
from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.

3.     All top management will now be referred to as "the government."
We will not participate in this "pooling" experience because the law
doesn't apply to us.

4.     The "government" will give eloquent speeches to all employees
every week, encouraging it's workers to continue to work hard "for the
good of all."

5.     The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because
it's "good to spread the wealth."  Those of you who have underachieved
will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and
had success will feel more "patriotic."

6.  The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks.
Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free
healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free
foodstamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want
even if you can't pay your mortgage.  If you appeal directly to our
Democratic Congress, you might even get a free flat screen TV a coupon
for a TV converter box and free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be
entitled to nice looking hair?) !!!

If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies,  you may want
to rethink your vote on  November 4th.

This  continuing CRISSIS it's beyond Obama or McCain.
Some things in the current capitalistic system should be re-examined.
As it looks right now the Monster is eating (if not ate already) its Frankenstein.

Some economists say its just the beginning of the end of the USA era. And will last for 30 to 50 years.
It seems the worst is yet to come. Some predict that Feb -> April would be a nightmare.

Well this is what happens when you sell thin air or keep  relying your profits  to a society of  consumers  in hight depts who are spending more than they earn.

I guess making the gap between very rich ppl and the rest of the world so huge isnt usefull for anyone after all...  8)

S.

p.s.
wow me and my pathetic annual income classify me in the 11 % of the richiest ppl in the planet.  We get what we deserve really.
You can learn  how rich are you here: http://www.globalrichlist.com/

Top 0.001%????

I don't think so!

The Buggars are just trying to pry loose some money by playing the bleeding heart guilt card.

Sounds like a Obama plan, just work your butt off anf give it to those who don't work.

From DE's post:

common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will
serve to give those of you who are underachieving a "fair shake."

Bah, humbug!

Like I said, a bogus web site. I put the amount I spent on guns and am still am in the top 0.001%, the same as it said about my income. And I sure did not spend the same amount on guns.

Try your salary in US Dollars and see what you get.

BTW.....the money I spent on guns came from my 401 account. Considering how some of my funds have dropped recently (40% in some cases) the money I withdrew to spend on guns is actually a much better investment. I should have spent more.

Oh yeah, I need to post some pics of my Greek Mannlicher-Shoenauer.

Let see...

Worldwide, it is estimated that the richest 2% own more than half of total global wealth, and that this elite group resides almost exclusively in North America, Western Europe, and rich Asia-Pacific countries.

In 1960, the 20% of the world’s people who live in the richest countries had 30 times the income of the poorest 20%; by 1995 it was 82 times.

Almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.

1.4 billion people live below poverty line that means they earn less than $1.25 per day

An analysis of long-term trends shows the distance between the richest and poorest countries was about:

3 to 1 in 1820
11 to 1 in 1913
35 to 1 in 1950
44 to 1 in 1973
72 to 1 in 1992

Number of Americans living in poverty today: 37 million

You still think this site is a bogus? ;)

When it gives me the exact same position for two completely different figures you bet I think it's boguns.

Oh, and the number position was also the same, exactly. On a difference of about $70,000.00.

It's called making money the old fashioned way, we earned it.

Now Obama wants us to give it to those who have not earned it.
