Hmmmm.....I went for her because of the different pants and the fact she appears tall.

For my second guess I need to take the girl just in front of Did_it and appears to also be tall and smiling because her dad told her if she did not smile she would be doing dishes for a month.

Links to two guns I bought at auction. Price wise I did real well on the Swedish Mauser M38 (250.00) and fair on the Enfield Jungle Carbine (400.00). Photos can be opened.

Auction, my first, was very interesting. Just listening to the Auctioneer was fun. They can go through the bids so fast verbally and keep it entertaining while doing it. At the start it took me a little while to follow along with how he was working the bidding process.

For the Swede I got lucky. One person was bidding against me and was a hair late raising my last bid and the auctioneer sold to me at 250.00, he tried to get a 300.00 bid in but decided just a hair late.

On the Enfield I was bidding with two others but both dropped out after my 400.00 bid.

Both guns look nice and both are matching numbers as far as I can tell.

The Enfield Jungle Carbine is not known for accuracy but is not a common gun, only about 250,000 were made. I am also told it kicks like a mule when shooting. The butt pad is rubber so I guess that is sort of a warning.

The Swedish gun on the other hand is known for accuracy and fun to shoot. My interest in the Swedish guns has some roots in my heritage since both my parents were born in Sweden.

(My Mom was born north of the Artic Circle and was the youngest of 15 children......says something for those long winter nights ;D)

Anyway, attending the auction was entertaining. Anyone looking for something to do on a weekend might just stop in to watch and listen, if the actioneer is good it's certainly a neat way to sell.

Darn bayonets cost almost as much as the guns! I have been buying matching bayonets for each military gun I have bought.

Looks really clean, is it C & R eligible or a new remake by Springfield? My guess a new Springfield because of how clean it looks, really nice.

If C&R who was the manufacturer? In that condition you would have had to pay a lot!

I have a new Springfield and it is a tack driver, very pleased with it.

I do not have any older M1's but have a reconditioned Winchester M1 on order from MILTECH.......a bit pricey but a real shooter.

It is an original with a new stock put on.
All the metal is original, and shows its age.
So, it's a restoration?

TO some degree if the original stock has been replaced. But keep in mind their are very few "original" M1's. Most have had arsenal rebuilds during their time in service.

Personally I like rebuilds / restorations because I appreciate appearance and performance more than originality.

Sort of like antiques, some people like old beat up furniture because of it's "antique" value........not me.

006.....

If you are looking for military guns from WW I or II or even later check some of the auction sites like:

http://www.gunbroker.com/
and
http://www.auctionarms.com/

A site used b gun dealers is:
http://www.gunsamerica.com/

You might also consider obtaining a Curio and Relic license so you can buy direct and not have to have a dealer do the paperwork and related costs. Not hard to get, costs about 30.00 or so, my son, Chris, already has one.

http://curioandrelicarms.com/

Saves a lot of money and inconvenience if you are becoming a collector. If you buy online the guns can be shipped right to your door at no additional charge.

Much of this you probably already know but I thought I would just pass it on just in case.

Who?  Aw man, Double-Oh-Six is a competitor of mine.  8) Just Kidding! ;)

Anyhow, I was not aware of the Curio and Relic license.  I will look into that.

Thanks Mhamu
